Chakras
THE CHAKRA SYSTEM

There are many misconceptions about the chakra system and what part they play in the manifestation of consciousness. To begin with, there are, in fact, thousands of minor chakras permeating the subtle anatomy, but only seven major centres which are considered primary. These lie along the surface of the etheric tract in the spinal column. They are often equated with electrical transformers, as their primary function is to control, modify and distribute pranic energy coming into the body, promoting equilibrium of body mind and spirit. Chakras which literally means 'Wheels' or 'Circles' in Sanskrit, are connected to the endocrine glands and nerve plexuses, through an extensive system of channels called 'Nadis'. The word 'Nadi' means 'Nerve', only at a more subtle level. It is along these nadis that pranic energy flows, from the chakras, to the organs of the physical body, thus maintaining the health of the body, mind and spirit.

One theory is that chakras contain all the experience of one's previous incarnations. Every endeavour you have made, whether good or bad, successful or not, desposits some experience in the chakras. This experience is returned to you in each incarnation.

NADIS

Although the subtle anatomy is permeated with millions of Nadis, there are three major nadis considered primary. These are Ida Nadi, Pingala Nadi, and the central spinal channel, called Sushumna Nadi. Ida Nadi controls the female energies, and is connected to the left nostril but located in the right side of the brain. Pingala Nadi controls the male energies, and is connected to the right nostril but located in the left side of the brain. Ida Nadi is represented, symbolically by the Moon, and Pingala Nadi is represented by the Sun. For the maintenance of a healthy body and mind, energy flow must be consistent. This is primarily achieved through a healthy diet and correct breathing, but may be maintained with the use of specific meditation disciplines.

PSYCHIC SKILLS

The cultivation of psychic skills may be effectively achieved with the use of candle scrying combined with specific breathing techniques. These are simply tools with which to precipitate the consciousness with the activation of specific chakras. Techniques for the cultivation of the senses are given on the meditation page.

WARNING Should you suffer from depression, or have a history of psychological problems you would be advised not to use any exercises employed specifically for the cultivation of psychic skills.
